Bury based early years and nursery supplies company, Essentials for Education, required a complete catalogue make-over. With a view to increase sales and market presence, they approached education, catalogue design experts, Andrew Burdett Design.
Nursery Catalogue Design Brief
After discussions on the size the catalogue should be (A4, A5, landscape, portrait, etc). It was decided to go for an conventional A4 portrait catalogue. The next step was to work out how many pages were required, as they stock thousands of nursery products. We worked on between 8 and 16 products per page, dependent on the value of the item or its sales. From this we worked out that the catalogue need to be 140 pages (including index, contents, intro and T&C’s).
Company Design Style
To ensure brand recognition, we followed the style, typography and colours of the clients brand new website. Initially we submitted a double page spread concept. On approval of this, we began artworking the product pages. It wasn’t until the end of the project (when we had seen all the available imagery), that we began work on the cover design.
