West Bromwich based school services company SIPS education, commissioned us to create and print a bespoke, cardboard lunchbox design with illustrations both inside and out. The box was to be given as part of a health eating campaign to educate new primary school children that were having school meals.
The brief was for the characters to be similar in style to some existing illustrations they used in a previous campaign (but early years children). The exterior illustration needed to be colourful and suitable for the early years market. The box inside was single colour, line illustrations for the children to colour-in. The bespoke box needed to be a specific size and was to contain pencils, stickers and other information. We also had to ensure the design utilised the companies branding.
Initially we designed the box and got some blank dummies made from the actual card we proposed to use, so the client could see and feel what the finished box was to be like. Once this was approved we then set to work illustrating the outer sides and top in a colourful, child-friendly style. We then followed this style through on the insides simplified line illustrations.
These boxes were to be given to every child in the West Bromwich area that was starting Primary School and having a school meal, so we had to print 10,000 of the lunchboxes. As always, we produced the job on time and on budget. the boxes were even delivered early, ready for distribution to all the areas schools.
